OBI’s aspiration is to be the leading DIY retailer setting the pace for the whole trade, as an innovator. Wherever we are present, we define the DIY market and strive for market leadership. We set standards regarding assortment, store formats and customers’ shopping experience.

OBI is ...
OBI is one of the leading European DIY brands. Currently, the company operates more than 540 stores, thereof more than 330 in Germany and more than 210 in 12 Central and Eastern European countries. OBI stores generate total sales of more than EUR 5,9 billion, employing more than 38.000 staff.
Our stores offer a broad and comprehensive product range, which, on average, includes 40-60.000 articles per store. The competent product range covers gardening, building material and elements, tools, sanitary and interior decoration. Attracted from within an extensive catchment area customers will find all they need to improve their homes.
Since the opening of the first OBI store in 1970 (Hamburg, Germany), the sales areas of the OBI stores have increased from 870 sqm to ”orange boxes” with more than 10.000 sqm.
The total store sales area now amounts to more than 3,8 million sqm.
OBI’s customers are primarily private individuals, e.g. families, do-it-yourselfers and semi-professionals.

OBI Expansion
Market leadership is our goal – wherever OBI is present. Focussing on Central and Eastern Europe, Russia and Ukraine as major growth markets are key to our expansion strategy.
Over the next 5-6 years, we are planning to open 35-40 new stores every year in Europe. The turnover from foreign stores is forecasted to increase from the currently 30% to well above 50%.

Leading the way in Europe
As the market leader in the German DIY retail industry, OBI is the driving force which propels the entire trade. Since 1991 the company has used its power ful position within the national market to press ahead with its expansion internationally.
Our market share rises continuously. We are improving our pole position in the market permanently. OBI is concentrating on Europe. Our vision is that of an unrestricted market leadership – in sales and market share, as the leader in product and service innovation, and in the realization of concepts and store formats.
In many international markets (e.g. Russia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, etc.) OBI is N°1.
In many other countries we are working on it.
We are building up a long-lasting sustainable business model. Growth will be the driving force of our future success.

OBI Hungary today ...
Since 1994 OBI is operating in the Hungarian market. OBI runs nearly 20 stores around the capital city of Budapest and also around the county towns with minimum 100.000 inhabitants.
OBI stores in Hungary: Budapest , Siófok, Szeged, Budaörs, Miskolc, Kaposvár, Eger, Veszprém, Békéscsaba, Tatabánya, Dunaújváros, Nagykanizsa, Szolnok, Szekszárd, Nyíregyháza, Sopron, Kecskemét, Keszthely, Gyöngyös.

... and in the future
OBI as the market leader in Hungary, we would like strengthen and sustain this position for long term. In order to achieve this, among some other things, we have to accomplish our earlier established expansion strategy. We estimate to cover fully the market potential in Hungary by having 27-28 stores (including relocations).
Based on the fact that population is heavily centralised first of all around the capital city of Budapest and also around the county towns, we predominantly looking for potential plots in these places, especially those areas where we have not yet been present.

Co-location: OBI is interested in co-developments with fitting high frequency retailers like hypermarkets, well selected tenants in mixed retail parks etc.

- Highly frequented main roads
- Optimal direct traffic connections for entrance
- and exit literally from and to all directions
- Public transport access
- Parking lots minimum according to official standards
- Plot size 3 ha
- Footprint store ca. 8.500-11.000 sqm
