Insulation guide
We command heat loss to stop!
Insulation materials used for internal insulation are available in wide variety: the most frequently used material is mineral wool made of minerals (glass or rock wool). Besides its fire-proof function it is excellent for additional noise protection as well. Natural insulation materials have growing popularity: hemp for example is not only an excellent insulator but it has extremely good moisture-proof characteristics. Wool is flexible and can be applied easily but if it is exposed to moisture for a longer period moulding might occur. Cellulose fibres made of recycled paper are blown-into the hollow spaces but it is practical to leave this work to experts.
Insulating the sloping beam
Only in four steps
1. Bottom insulation foil
2. Insulating material (e.g. felt made of mineral wool)
3. Vapour-proof layer (vapour-proof foil)
4. Cover material (e.g. panels made of wood or gypsum plasterboard)
Professional tip:
In the event of old roof frames it is practical to start work by surveying the load bearing capacity.
Insulating the upstairs floor
The process of insulating the upstairs floor
1. Use panels made of dry composition floor or solid foam (in the event of flat floor), and use mineral wool or layers (in the event of wooden floor made using unsupported distances open upwards)!
2. Tread surface (e.g. elements made of dry composition floor).
3. Floor cover
Professional tip:
If there are no living-rooms in the attic it is enough to insulate the attic there is no need for separate insulation of the sloping beams.
Insulation of the intermediate sloping beams
Let’s look at it in details:
When insulating intermediate sloping beams we fill up the spaces between the sloping beams with mineral wool then we apply a vapour-proof layer.
Choice of insulating materials:
mineral wool (glass or rock wool)
Advantages:
- Insulation layer applied from the inside
- There is no need for roofing
Insulation laid under the sloping beams
Let’s look at it in details:
This kind of insulation is applied on the sloping beams from below. The insulation fixed this way is often used for additional insulation of the intermediate sloping beams.
Choice of insulating materials:
mineral wool (glass or rock wool)
Advantage:
- It’s excellent for insulating old style houses with low sloping beams.
Insulting layer to be laid on the sloping beams
Let’s look at it in details:
If you want to achieve a gap-free insulation a layer of insulation made of panels of solid foam is usually laid above the sloping beams mainly in case of newly built houses or at the comprehensive renovation of the roof. It’s practical to leave the task to experts (roofing specialists)!
Choice of insulating materials:
panels made of solid foam
Advantage:
- It is excellent for insulating newly built houses or for the comprehensive renovation of the roof
- It results in a gap-free insulation
Internal insulation of the pediment
In the interest of insulated upper floor
There are several solutions for the internal insulation of the attic (let it be the pediment of a house with wooden structure or an old building subject to monument protection). Due to the process utilized so far a structure made of wood or metal was placed onto the wall and the gaps were filled with an insulation layer of mineral wool. This process is continued with the laying of a vapour-proof layer.
